چکیده

The reliability of a transmission and distribution system can be significantly improved by employing a predictive maintenance program. For such a program to succeed, the condition of the total system must first be established. This has been accomplished by applying a totally passive diagnostic technique that analyzes radio frequency (RF) pulses emitted by a cable system while it is energized in service. Analysis of this information is employed to estimate future performance of the cables, splices, terminations and other electrical equipment connected to the circuit. The Cable/Wise Diagnostic Tool developed by DTE Energy Technologies (DTECH) was utilized by Arizona Public Service on their transmission and distribution system. APS concluded that this method enabled a logical and cost-effective approach to be applied to their cable system replacement program. This paper describes the process, technology and end results.

Applications of Joint Time-Frequency Domain Reflectometry for Health Assessment of Cable Insulation Integrity in Nuclear Power Plants

Defective cables in the electric power systems of nuclear power plants can cause failure of essential components in control and instrumentation or power distribution subsystems, resulting in potential safety concerns. Due to this problem, a nondestructive and non-intrusive condition assessment technique is highly desirable to evaluate cable status and to predict the remaining useful life of a c...

Aging Mechanisms and Monitoring of Cable Polymers

Aging mechanisms of two polymeric insulation materials that are used widely in nuclear power plant low-voltage cables; cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and ethylene propylene rubber/ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPR/EPDM), are reviewed. A summary of various nondestructive methods suitable for evaluation of cable insulation is given. A capacitive sensor capable of making local nondestruct...

Antibacterial ethylene propylene rubber impregnated with silver nanopowder: AgNP@EPR

Following our interest in reaching for a molded rubber article with possible detergent contact applications, durable silver nanopowder (AgNP) is synthesized by arc discharge, then mixed with varying ratios of ethylene propylene rubber (EPR), affording novel AgNP@EPR nanocomposites. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns of AgNP as well as AgNP@EPR show no trace of impurity, while scanning electron mi...

Evaluation of Electrical Tree Degradation in Cross-Linked Polyethylene Cable Using Weibull Process of Propagation Time

The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate electrical tree degradation for cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable insulation for three difference models. In order to show the distribution characteristics using phase resolved partial discharge (PD), we acquire data by using a PD detecting system. These acquired data presented four 2D distributions such as phase angle-average discharge distrib...

Long-life Xlpe Insulated Power Cable

Crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) has become the globally preferred insulation for power cables, both for distribution and transmission system applications. This insulation system provides cost efficiency in operation and procurement, as well as lower environmental and maintenance requirements when compared to older impregnated paper systems. The purpose of this paper is to outline some of the de...
